Mixtures and Solutions
13
Diluted: Solutions with LOW ratio of solute to solvent
Chemical Reaction: When a NEW material is formed from a mixture and it is not possible to retrieve the original materials
Heterogeneous: A mixture consists of visibly different substances or phases
Property: a characteristic of an object, something you can observe such as size, color, shape, or texture.
Dissolving: the process of a material becoming incorporated into another.
Solute: Solid part of a mixture; Gets dissolved
Mixture: two or more substances that are mixed but can be separated because their atoms aren’t physically joined.
Liquid: A form of matter that can flow freely and take the shape of the container.
Solvent: Liquid part of a solution; Does the dissolving
Homogenous: A mixture has the same uniform appearance throughout
Concentrated: Solutions with HIGH ratio of solute to solvent
Solution: A special kind of mixture formed when one or more materials dissolved in another compound.
Saturated: When the solution has reached its maximum concentration. Cannot hold any more solute
