Absolute age:The age of a rock given as the nmber of years since it formmed.
Asthenosphere:The sift layer of the mantle on which the lithosphere floats.
bedrock:The solid layer of rock beneath the soil.
Cast:A fossil that is a copy of an organism's shape formed when minerals seep into mold.
Continental Drift:The hypothesis that the continents slowly move across Earth's surface.
Convection:The transfer of thermal energy by the movement of a fluid.
Core:The central region of the sun where nuclear fusion takes place.
Crust:The layer of rock that forms Earth's outer surface.
Delta:A landform made of sediment that is deposited where a river flows into an ocean or lake.
Deposition:Process in which sediment is laid down in new locations.
Erosion:The process by which water, ice, wind,or gravity moves weathered rock or soil.
humus:Dark-colored organic material in soil.
Igneous Rock:A type of rock that forms from the cooling of molten rock at or below the surface.
Lithosphere:A rigid layer made up of the uppermost part of the mantle and the crust.
Loam:Rich, fertile soil that is made up of about equal parts of clay, sand, and slit.
Magma:the molten mixture of rock-forming substances, gases, and water from the mantle.
Mantle:The layer of hot solid material between earth's crust and core.
Sedimentary rock: Ab type of rock that forms rocks or organisms;earth materials
Mineral:A naturally occuring, inorganic solid that has a crystal structure and a definite chemical
Soil:The loose, weathered material on earth's surface in which plants grow.
Earth quake:The shaking that results from the movement of rock beneath earth's surface.
