Marriage: The lawful accepted union between a woman and man.
Monogamy: A form of marriage which allows a person to have only one wife or husband at the same time.
Polygamy: A form of marriage which allows a person to have more than one wife or husband at the same time.
Polygyny: One man having two or more wives at the same time.
Polyandry: One woman having two or more husbands at the same time.
Endogamy: A spouse is specifically selected from within a preferred group,sect or tribe.
Exogamy: The spouse is preferred from outside his/her own tribe,group or sect.
Bigamy: marriage to another person while already being lawfully married.
Divorce: When a marriage ends lawfully.
Legal Separation: Where both spouses agree to live apart but remain legally married.
Annulment: Court decision that declares a marriage void and invalid, because of legal reasons.
Alimony: An allowance that is due to a wife from a husband's estate upon divorce.
Patrilocal: The couple resides with the husband's parents.
