Matter : Anything that has mass and occupies space
Solid : A substance that has a definate shape and volume, with particles that cohere rigidly
Crystalline : solid in which the particles making up that substance are highly ordered and exist in regular repeating patterns
Liquid : substance that has a definate volume
Mixture: Matter consisting of two or more substanes combined together physically in varying proportions. May always be seperated into its components by physical techniques alone.
Monoatomic : An element in which the smallest particle that can exist is a single atom
Homogeneous : Matter that is Uniform in appearance, has a uniform density and has the same properties throughout
Pure Substance : A particular piece of matter having a definite, fixed and nonvarying compostion and having associated with it a characteristic set of physicial properties and chemical properties
Amorphous A Sloid in which the particles are randomly arranged and have no definite shape or form
Phase : A Homogeneous part of a system separated from other parts of the system by a physical boundary
Liquid : A substance that has a definate volume but not a definate shape
Heterogeneous : Matter consisting of two or more phases
System : The body of matter under consideration
Gas : A substance that has no fixed shape and has particles that are moving independently of each other.
Element : Pure Substance that is chemically homogeneous cannot be separated into simpler substances and its nuclei all contain the same number of protons, a unique for each of the 105 known elements.
