27
Chemical: Any substance that has a definite composition
Chemistry: Study of composition, structure, and properties of matter and the changes it undergoes
Atom: The smallest unit of an element that maintains the properties of that element
Chemical Change: A change in which one or more substances are converted into different substances
Chemical Property: The ability of a substance to undergo a change that transforms it into a different substance
Chemical Reaction: A reaction in which one or more substances are converted into different substances
Compound: A substance that is made from the atoms of two or more elements that are chemically bonded
Element: Pure substance made of only one kind of atom
Extensive Property: Property that is dependent on how much of a a substance there is
Gas: State of matter consisting of particles that have neither a defined shape nor volume
Heterogeneous: A mixture where the components are not uniform or have localized regions with differnt properties
Homogeneous: Mixture where components are unifrom
Intensive Property: Property that does not depend on the amount of the substance
Liquid: State of matter that has a definite volume but not shape
Mass: Amount of matter in an object
Matter: Anything with mass and occupies space
Mixture: Two or more substances are combined without chemical bonds
Physical Change: Change that can be observed without changing the chemical composition of a substance
Plasma: State of matter at extremely high temperatures where all molecules are dissociated and most atoms are ionized
Product: Compounds that are formed when a reaction goes to completion
Pure Substance: Substance that can be found on the periodic table
Reactant: Substances initially present in a chemical reaction that are consumed during to make products
Solid: State of matter with a defined shape and volume
Solution: Mix of solid and liquid where solid never settles out
Group: Vertical column in periodic table
Metal: Good conductor of heat and electricity
Metalloid: Some characteristics of a metal and some of a non metal
Nonmetal: Poor conductor
Period: Horizontal column in periodic table
