Range : The maximum minus the minimum
Deviations : Measure of the difference
Interquartile Range : this range is resistant to effects of the outlier
Population : The entire collection of individuals or objects about which info is desired
Sample : Part of the population used for the study
Outlier : Unusually small or large data value that skews the data
Variance : How far a set of numbers is spread out
Sample Variance : Sum of the squared devations from the mean
Univariate data set : observations on a single variable made on individuals in a sample or population
Catagorical data set : non numerical qualitive
Numerical data set : quantitative, a value determined by counting/measuring
Multivariate data : obtaining a category or value for each 2 or more attributes
Trimmed Mean : Order the data from least to greatest, delete a select number of values from each end and average the remaining values
Trimmed percentage : The percentage of values deleted from each end of the list
Variable : any characteristics whose value may change from one individual or object to another
