Epithelial tissue:The lining covering, and glandular tissue of the body
simple: Single layer of thin squamous cells
cartilage: Less hard and more flexible than bone
bone: sometimes called osseous tissue and composed of osteocytes
Extracellular Matrix: What makes connective tissue so different from other tissues; composed of ground substance and fiber
Gland: Consists of one or more cells that make and secrete a particular product.
Neuroglia: Special group of supporting cells that insulate, support, and protect the delicate neurons in the structure of the nervous system
Fibrocartilage: Highly compressible and forms the cushionlike disks between the vertebrae of the spinal column
Ligaments: Connect bones to bones at joints
Cardiac Muscle: Is found only in the heart with cells that are uninucleate and relatively short
connective tissue: Found throughout the body and connect body parts
Adipose Tissue: Commonly called fat
Elastic cartilage: Found in structures with elasticity like the external ear
Regeneration: The replacement of destroyed tissue by the same kind of cells
Smooth muscle: Received its name because there are no striations visible
Dense Connective Tissue: Has collagen fibers as its main matrix element
Endocrine Glands: Ductless glands
Tissue: Group of cells that are similar in structure and function
Stratified Cuboidal Epithelial: These tissue types are rare in the human body and are for protection
Exocrine Glands: Include sweat and oil glands, liver, and pancreas
Nervous Tissue: Tissue that contain neurons
Transitional Epithelial: Highly modified, stratified squamous epithelium that forms the lining of only a few organs
Neurons: Conceive and receive conduct electrochemical impulses from one part of the body to another known as conductivity and irritability
Tendon: Attach skeletal muscles to bones
Basement Membrane: Structureless material secreted by both the epithelial cells and connective tissue cells that abut the epithelium
