Cell Division : mitosis, when the cell makes a copy of itself.
Binary Fission : how cells of prokaryotes divide or reproduce; split in two parts
Mitosis : division of body cells, each cell receives a copy of the original chromosomes
Chromosomes : a coiled structure of DNA and protein.
Chromatid : identical copies of chromosomes
Centromere : the region that holds chromatids together when a chromosome is duplicated
Spindle Fibers : fibers that attach to each chromosome and help pull them apart
Cell Cycle : the sequence of activities that a cell carries out during cell division- life cycle of a cell
Interphase : start of mitosis; chromosomes are copied
Prophase : Mitosis begins, chromosomes pair up; spindle fibers attach to the centromeres
Metaphase : Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
Anaphase : chromosomes are pulled apart by spindle fibers
Telophase : membrane forms around the two new sets of chromosomes and the cell starts to split into 2 new cells
Cytokinesis : The cell has split into two identical cells
Cell Plate : cytokinesis for plants
Meiosis : cell division that produces reproduction cells; only 1/2 the number of chromosomes
Haploid : a cell that contains a single set of chromosomes = produced during meiosis
Diploid :a cell that contains a single set of chromosomes = produced during mitosis
