Medications : also known as drugs - are chemical substances that cause a specific effect on the body and a prescribed for and taken by people to obtain various desired results in the body
Narcotic: is an addictive drug, such as opium, that reduces pain, alters mood and behavior, and usually induces sleep or stupor. Natural and synthetic narcotics are used in medicine to control pain
Therapeutic effects : desired effect of a medication
Side effects : more commonly used term for Adverse reactions – generally we are aware of potential Side Effects before taking a medication
Adverse effects :Adverse reactions are undesirable effects to health products
Idiosyncratic effects : An unusual individual reaction to food or a drug.
Drug Tolerance : the state at which the body gets accustomed to a substance so needs larger and larger amounts to experience the same effect
Toxic effect : an adverse effect of a drug produced by an exaggeration of the effect that produces the therapeutic response
Drug allergy : an abnormal response to a drug
Anaphylaxis : Life-threatening sensitivity to an antigen
Topical effect : Works on the skin surface
Localized effect: Works on a specific part
Systemic effect: Relief is felt elsewhere in the body
Drug Interaction: the way medications interact with other drugs or substances in the body
