Perilymph : is an extracellular fluid located within the cochlea. in two of its three compartments: the scala tympani and scala vestibuli.
Endolymph : the fluid contained in the membranous labyrinth of the inner ear.
Horizontal semicircular canal : the shortest of the three canals. Movement of fluid within this canal corresponds to rotation of the head around a vertical axis (the neck).
Posterior semicircular canal : a part of the vestibular system that detects rotation of the head around a rostral-caudal axis. This occurs, when you touch your head to your shoulders
Superior semicircular canal : This canal is a part of the vestibular system and detects rotations of the head in around the lateral axis. this occurs when you nod your head.
oval window : A membrane-covered opening which leads from the middle ear to the vestibule of the inner ear.
round window : An opening on the medial wall of the middle ear that leads into the cochlea and is covered by the secondary tympanic membrane.
Cochlear duct : An endolymph filled cavity inside the cochlea, located in between the tympanic duct and the vestibular duct.
cochlea : The sense organ that translates sound into nerve impulses to be sent to the brain.
vestibule : the central part of the osseous labyrinth, and is situated medial to the tympanic cavity, behind the cochlea, and in front of the semicircular canals.
utricle : one of the two otolith organs located in the vertebrate inner ear.
succule : a bed of sensory cells situated in the inner ear. It translates head movements into neural impulses which the brain can interpret.
